Bus Station Shooting AttackDecember 9, 2018 |
On the evening of Sunday, December 9, 2018, on the last night of Hanukkah, the parents of Amiad Israel Ish-Ran, Shira Ish-Ran, 21, and Amichai Ish-Ran, 21, were among seven people who were injured by terrorist gunfire as they waited at a bus stop on Route 60, in Givat Assaf, Israel. Shira Ish-Ran, who was shot in the abdomen, was 30-weeks pregnant. Her husband, Amichai Ish-Ran, sustained three gunshot wounds to the leg.
Following the shooting, Shira Ish-Ran was transported to Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem, where she was treated for her injuries. During the course of Mrs. Ish-Ran’s treatment, Amaid Israel Ish-Ran was born prematurely, by way of emergency caesarean (C-section) delivery.
Amaid Israel Ish-Ran died on December 12, 2018, after undergoing several days of intensive care. His parents reportedly were able to hold their son on Wednesday morning, before he died.
Amaid Israel Ish-Ran was laid to rest in the Mount of Olives cemetery, which overlooks Jerusalem’s Old City. Amaid Israel’s body, smaller than the size of a shoe box, was wrapped in a miniature tallit (prayer shawal), and protected from the rain by a mourner who held an umbrella.
Amiad Israel underwent a symbolic circumcision shortly before the funeral.
His parents, who were still in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds, were unable to attend the funeral. The funeral, however, was reportedly attended by thousands of mourners.
The terrorist organization Hamas characterized the shooting as an “act of resistance against Israel.”
On December 13, 2018, Muslim terrorist Saleh Barghouti was shot and killed by Israeli authorities, who were attempting to arrest him for the murder of Amaid Israel Ish-Ran. Barghouti was the son of a West Bank Hamas terror leader. It was reported that four other Muslim terrorists were also arrested in connection with the murder of Amiad Israel Ish-Ran.
On November 28, 2019, Assam Barghouti, another alleged Muslim terrorists, was convicted of charges related to his involvement in the murder of Amiad Israel Ish-Ran.
