In Memoriam: Charles James Kirk (1993 – 2025) How One Man Fought for a Moral and Religious People9/22/2025 The United States of America was founded predominantly by Christians, based on Judeo-Christian principles. From the Pilgrams to the Founding Fathers and beyond, almost all Americans (and ancestors of future Americans) believed in the Story of Creation, the Ten Commandments, the Splitting of the Sea, and the Jewish people having traveled through the wilderness, on their way to the Promised Land. Like the Jews who journeyed to the Promised Land, America’s early settlers viewed their journey from Europe, across the Atlantic Ocean to North America, as their personal journey, of sorts, to their promised land. From the Thanksgiving story of the early American settlers, through at least the presidency of John Adams, the second president of the United States of America, the overwhelming majority of Americans were a god-fearing and religious people. Regarding what became the United States’ primary and guiding document, it was said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams (1798). Applying the moral teachings of the Jewish Bible to their lives and to the governance of their communities, later generations of Americans settled the United States, while continuing to use Biblical principles to grow and make the United States the most prosperous, powerful, and arguably the most just, nation the world has ever known. But, like many prosperous and powerful nations before it, the United States, somewhere along its national journey, stumbled, faltered, and has largely lost its way. The United States went from being a country of “moral and religious People” to being a country of morally and religiously challenged people. It went from being a country where almost everyone believed in a Creator; from a country where men married women and raised families; from a country where people worked hard and didn’t expect handouts, especially from government; from a country where theft and other crimes were swiftly and effectively punished; to a country which is now largely the opposite of the one which was, at its founding, inhabited by a “moral and religious People.” Many people have witnessed this change. But unlike most, Charles James Kirk, aka: Charlie Kirk, who was an exceptional and gifted man, made it his business, until his life was cut short by an assassin’s bullet on September 10, 2025, to try and slow, and ultimately reverse, America’s “moral and religious” decline and ultimate future destruction. The strategy that Charlie used to advance his agenda – a strategy which will now be carried forward by his widow Erika and by his team at Turning Point USA – was, at the same time, both simple and brilliant. It is a strategy that Charlie “borrowed” from atheists, Socialists, Marxists, and Communists; and it’s a strategy that he turned against them. Charlie’s strategy has its origins in none other than the Communist Manifesto itself. Quite simply, it is the strategy of teaching and persuading younger generations, with the goal being not just to persuade the current generation, but, more importantly, to lay the foundation for influencing future generations. The simplicity and brilliance of Charlie’s strategy is that it “borrows” a strategy which U.S. schools and teachers’ unions have been using for many decades, for the purpose of corrupting young minds, and using that strategy to achieve exactly the opposite result: to teach young people the details and merits of being a “moral and religious People.” Charlie’s “borrowed” strategy is working; more and more American youth are not only being exposed to conservative and religious beliefs and ideas; more and more American youth are embracing those beliefs and ideas. Everyone who knew Charlie, whether personally or merely through his work, will miss him. Not only will Charlie’s impact on those who knew him, on the lives that he touched, never be forgotten; his influence on the “moral and religious People” that is, on Americans, will be, and is, greater than anyone – including his assassin – could have imagined. However, all of the good that Charlie did during his short life was not without cost, the brunt of which will, at least in this world, undoubtedly be borne by his wife Erika and their two children. They alone will continue to feel the loss of Charlie in ways that others might only imagine. May the Master of the Universe –רבונו של עולם – grant them peace – שלום.
